Why not create a thread for it? That way, you and others can spam the hell out of that and not this one. They're excited statgeek . Bless Haven't been so excited since 1992 . Its 48 years since their Labour Party won a GE. They'll calm down soon. colin Very impressed at the way you managed to ascertain which version of the Labour party from which era is the preferred one of which posters. Very intuitive. I'm not excited just depressed that it turns out this country is even more of a basket case than I ever imagined. Nothing like this would be happening in Germany because it's a serious country where politicians of all stripes have taken the crisis seriously and where a culture of diligence and public service remains strong. But at least we've got English 'humour' eh?

mercian Sorry. Mea Culpa for not reading every post and/or for being forgetful. I didn't mean just on here though. I don't obsessively follow news and opinion channels, but probably do so more than most people, and I've not seen it discussed publiclyNo need to apologise, no ones perfect - do you think it would be a factor? In addition, the fact that he is fiscally conservative by inclination would imply he would not be so big on the levelling up agenda. It would only take a few percent of recently-switched Tories to switch back to Labour to swing a number of seats.

Seriously fed up with chest infection and now long it has lasted Lulu, so too much spare time on my hand.
Hopefully it is temporary (and also that I survive - as you may know, we men are wimps. )

I've been wading through my note from my 1963 GCE O'level European History 1848 to 1914 and I've not found any reference to the Mandolinistas. I know we covered the Italian Unification, which gave rise to the Carbonari who went round the streets strangling dissenters with creamy spaghetti. Then there was the collapse of Piedmont Airlines, followed by the invention of the Garibaldi biscuit. There were lots of other Unifications going on, it was fashionable at the time.
Has he gone yet?

Hireton BBS has been keeping track of Scots Tories calling for Johnson to go MPs 1/6 : Constituency MSPs 3/5 : List MSPs 17/26 The potential for Scots Tories to revert to their pre-1965 position will exercise commentators for a while. I wonder if there will be a Johnson Continuity Faction in the Scottish Tories which will attempt a putsch against the disloyal Rossites?

Andy - Not many people know that Gary Baldy wasn’t actually Italian but was Scottish. Got fed up with shortbread apparently (which is weird.)

neiljSeems strange that Sunak had to go to Cornwall to meet MPs when one might reasonably expect them to be in the HoC. Do you think they might have organised a fleet of coaches to have a getawayfromborisday? As the only Northamptonshire MP I'd go so far as to say I like on a personal level, I felt for Michael Ellis yesterday. In normal times, he does his surgeries where I work. On the very rare occasions our paths have crossed, he has always been friendly and civil, passing easily for human, which is more than can be said for Leadsom, who comes across like Joanna Lumley playing a demented maiden aunt.

Anent rich teas with currants in aka Follicly Challenged Gary- I doubt a Scotsman would design such a silly biscuit. My personal Scottish favourite is the Abernethy by Simmers. An acquired taste, which Mrs SDA says have no flavour and are like eating cardboard, which leaves all the more for me.

Hireton
"I wonder if there will be a Johnson Continuity Faction in the Scottish Tories which will attempt a putsch against the disloyal Rossites?"
I suspect that the split in SCon is not primarily about Johnson. Fraser's bid for leadership in 2011 was essentially for a return to the Unionist Party status pre-1965. While Davidson won the election, the votes were closer than many assume.
Fraser 2,096 first preference votes Davidson 2,278 first preference votes With second preference votes counted, Davidson won by 2,983 votes to 2,417.
Obviously both camps want to continue with the UK Union, and the division is partly about tactics as to whether traditional Scottish Unionism (Scotland in UK) works better with the electorate than "British Unity", but there is also a belief system difference as well.
The more that senior Con folk at Westminster, like Re-Smogg and Gove, rubbish and denigrate the SCon leadership, the more likely it seems that the revival of more traditional Scottish Unionism will gather increased support.
Later note : I see that it took Alistair Gray until 21:18 to come out for Johnson (by when only 3 other Cabinet members had not yet so done)

domjgI thought stereotyping was the norm for comedies. That's what makes them funny. Why pick on the French anyway. The Germans and British airmen who appear are equally lampooned. No doubt the bbc will get round to banning it, eventually.

I've been toying with the idea of standing as an OMRLP candidate in the next GE, so did a bit of research. I loved this policy: "To unite the population, we will surround the UK with a large cardboard box so people can be both in and/or out of the EU. This will be known as Schrodinger’s Brexit."
