William Wragg, vice Chair of the 1922 committee executive is now calling for Johnson to resign. Barbara, I think close of play tomorrow is possible if the rest of the grey suits concur. Excellent. The lovely (and v talented) Liz Truss next in the “Have a go at being PM” Tory Party lottery.

I don’t know the answer to this one ,were the rules that applied to meeting people on the 20th of March 2020 against the law and a criminal offence or were they under the heading of goverment guidance which was not a criminal offence. And is the garden of number 10 a public outdoor space or private. I was only wondering as I understand the Met were looking into what happened. And it was around that time government advice was changing. Having watch parts of the Johnson at PMQ’s I was struck by whenever you hear those words you must apologise in the media or from opposition parties and a apology is given ,its never accepted or it’s the wrong apology . That doesn’t just apply to politicians but to almost everybody who has done something wrong makes the effort to say sorry, but it’s never good enough if they happen to be in the the public eye. The other thing that struck me is how much Starmers fortunes are tied into Johnson, every advancement Labour have made is due solely to what Johnson does and even then Starmers personal ratings are still way behind his party and barely above Johnson’s who let’s face it hasn’t had the best of press lately. Still on the up side just a few more months of Boris ,although you can never write him off, then hopefully the Tories will begin the selection of either Sunak or Truss either one will won’t have much trouble with the leader of the opposition. It was ever thus that the opposition only tends to prosper when the government is perceived to be failing and found wanting.

I particularly enjoyed Wragg suggesting that this would be "for the good of the country", nothing to do with fear of losing the next election or anything crass like that of course.

Is that a record? We are getting to have as many PMs as Italy at this rate!! Don't they change one every six months?

crossbat11"Wise counsel from the grandees will not be heeded." Indeed. He'll probably threaten to expel them! All those sworn enemies aren't enemies for no good reason. I'm afraid the Tories first elected a rogue, followed by the UK.

"We could go for 4 PMs in 6 years. Is that a record?"
There were four from 1916-23, Asquith, Lloyd G, Bonar-Law, Baldwin. Four from 1937-45, BaLdwin Chamberlain, Churchill, Attlee; Also from 1951-57, Atlee, Churchill, Eden, Macmillan.
That record was beaten more than once in the 18th & 19th centuries.

And how many of the deaths are vaccinated people? You’ll need to toddle off to the covid section if you seriously want to ask questions. All comments there will leave you clocking up minus posts and also leave you vulnerable to the very latest strain of covid (for which there is no known cure.)

robbiealive There were four prime ministers in five years at the commencement of the 19th century. To be fair the departure of Spencer Percival was a surprise to Spencer as he was assassinated.

Re: who to vote for:
I might consider voting for the Don’t Knows, who sometimes do quite well in polling, but somehow they never seem to be on the ballot.

Re: who to vote for: I might consider voting for the Don’t Knows, who sometimes do well in polling, yet somehow they never seem to be on the ballot. You could set up that party and stand - as it’s leader - for election. You could then answer “don’t know mate” to all questions from pundits and public. People like nifty catchphrases so you would almost certainly win and become PM. Continue with your main policy and I don’t see why the country shouldn’t thrive - certainly wouldn’t do any worse.

Rees-mogg really does think there is one rule for them and a different one for us The irony of this is that even if the polls showed Boris Johnson only has the confidence of 10% of the population, only Tory MPs can remove him, just as only they and the 90,000 Conservative Party Members could elect him. And apart from that we get a say only once every 5 years. And they call this democracy.

I am a bit concerned that, as my post count closes on 300, I might not be rewarded suitably. Why not create a thread for it? That way, you and others can spam the hell out of that and not this one.

Since I'm in forum etiquette mode, if replying to someone, just add their name, and not quote them. If quoting them, it's bad form to include the entire post if it's not applicable. And it's especially bad form to quote an entire embedded visual in a quote. Double reading for all, and not necessary. Nuff said.

A majority of Tory MSPs in Scotland have now called for Johnson to resign. I have not seen any reports about other Scottish Tory MP following Ross.
This seems to be a big bet by the Scotland branch of the party that Johnson will go.
If he doesn't, they will have to
A. Fight the local elections in May and the next UK General Election ( if it applies to Scotland) as part of the UK party whose leadership they have no confidence in
Or
B. Setting up an independent Scottish Tory Party.

Don't think Johnson does bloodless coups. Expect blood on the carpet. Lots of it. Well, I hope that they keep it off the wallpaper in the flat; it would be expensive to redecorate.
