He even wanted to make the awful Paula Vennells, Bishop of London. Oh dear, starting to look a bit sinister. Anyone got a third similar mistake, three is the charm apparently to stop being a coincidence?

Justin Welby has resigned! Good. He has made too many mistakes during his time at Lambeth Palace (and before). He even wanted to make the awful Paula Vennells, Bishop of London. Sometimes Christians can be too trusting of others who profess to be Christians. To be fair, he wasn't the only one duped by Vennells.

c-a-r-f-r-e-wThe infamous cases involving Roy Meadows presenting expert evidence,p should cause those of scientific bent to consider whether their expertise is sufficient to meet all of the requirements necessary to underpin a hypothesis. Meadows' undoubted expertise in paediatric medicine was undermined by his lack of any understanding of the proper use of statistics. On that basis whilst I accept your premise that all science must be tested, I would question whether most people, amongst whom I include myself, are equipped to undertake such testing!

In justice delayed is most definitely justice denied. In the only case where the criminal rapist has actually faced a jury yet another delay in any outside chance of punishment. In the numerous cases that trump has faced its taken a combination of over a decade of delays to achieve this one conviction. Despite the vast funds spent, the best supreme court and judges money can buy, insult abuse and threats , corrupt judges and snail paced litigation, in the new York case a jury actually got to hear evidence and reach a guilty verdict after all the years of evasion it took them just 12 hours to conclude the traitor was guilty on 34 counts. Now this is likely to follow all the others down the pan. What connects Canada and Mexico with stupidity? Yes, that is the problem. The question is not whether an individual can challenge the consensus. Obviously sometimes they can successfully, and other times they may well be deluded. The debate more properly then is about trying to ascertain when the individual is correct and the consensus is deluded or vice versa. you would’ve likely encountered that issue in your line of work, hence your interest in the matter. When is someone a genuinely expert or reliable witness? (in hospital, when I suggested something different, they tested my thinking. They didn’t just go “oh okay then”.) This is a quite involved but very interesting and useful question I explored quite a bit in my teaching...

Hope you arent including government there, she was obviously hired to try to hide the postmasters fiasco. Maybe someone thought she would therefore be a safe pair of hands to appoint as a bishop and help control the church.

Also see this in the i newspaper by Iain Dale (yes, I know he's a Tory) Welby stands accused of knowing about the serial abuse of children by John Smyth QC, but not taking it seriously enough to report him to the police. He appears to have cared more about the reputation of the Church than the many dozens of Smyth’s victims.
When Smyth’s activities were uncovered in this country he moved first to Zimbabwe, then South Africa, where he replicated the so-called “Christian Camps”, where he continued to abuse many African children. Welby attended some of the camps and has now admitted that he first knew of the allegations against Smyth in 1981, yet the two continued to exchange Christmas cards and Welby continued to offer support to Smyth’s camps in Africa both financially and with good wishes. ... The Bishop of Newcastle, Helen-Ann Hartley, bravely issued a statement, not only calling on him to resign, but alongside a text of a letter sent to her by Welby and the Archbishop of York clearly seeking to coerce her to agree with them that John Sentamu should be allowed to resume his ministry after an independent review found he failed to act on a sexual abuse disclosure.

Putin has already made trump look a fool. In the first 48 hours. His supposed strongly worded demand that war criminal Putin deescalate has been denied as happening at all by the Kremlin and instead state controlled media in Russia are showing a series of smutty photos of the once and future first lady Melania , before she became a gold digger. Admittedly making a fool of trump isn't the greatest challenge. youtu.be/eGZEHVy73E0?si=29hHNAiWdCLxGO1g

Even if any of that very biased report by Mr the US media won’t report this but I will is true , far from making a fool of Trump ,Putin if he was responsible is making a very dangerous enemy especially regarding Trumps future support of Ukraine and future embargo’s on Russian trade. Insult the man but never insult the wife.
But given Trump has few friends amongst some of the US media the story you post is not mentioned in the news, it’s just that a story with little fact made up by a Trump hater on You tube surprised you give it any credibility or maybe not.

"Insult the man but never insult the wife"
Turk do you actually exist in the real world ,,the rapist criminal has spent the last 10 years insulting the spouses, parents , children and relatives of anyone who has upset the man babies sensibilities. For an extreme right wing individual like yourself, but apparently a democrat , your sources of credible information must be very short indeed.

Indeed - and Trump's popular vote lead is now down to 2.2% which is less than Bush managed against Kerry in 2004.

Given the offence is so great, would it not be curiously asymmetric to celebrate our role in 1807 whilst drawing a vale over the misery of the preceding 150 years? Black lives matter. I wasn't drawing a veil over it, just trying to inject a bit of balance to counter the collective guilt trip that a lot of people seem to have about our history. Despite the Empire's efforts to abolish slavery, there are estimated to be about 40 million people in slavery today including some in this country. I think it's more important to concentrate on that rather than something that we tried to abolish 200 years ago. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_the_21st_century

Gary Lineker to leave the BBC. Unsurprising after they were unable to prevent him making public left wing statements. Foolish to imagine the BBC has ever been left wing, thats propaganda issued by the right trying to push the overton window rightwards. I think he'd have gone a lot quicker if he made public right-wing statements.

For instance re slavery. When Sir John Hawkins went on a speculative trade mission to west Africa with a cargo of goods such as (I assume) of manufactured goods such as axes and cloth and asked them what they had to trade they said "Well we have these slaves...". Thus began the famous triangular trade of England to West Africa to trade goods for slaves, then West Africa to the West Indies and mainland America to trade slaves for stuff like tobacco and cotton, and then back to England. It's just as valid to say that fortunes were built on cotton and tobacco as slaves. You have a better argument than that. The Benin bronzes were made from melted down manillas, the brass rings that the European slave traders exchanged with the rulers of the Edo people in modern-day Nigeria for their slaves. So the rulers were equally as guilty as the Europeans, and indeed had been enslaving their defeated enemies for centuries before the Europeans came to Africa. The difference then was that to sell them to the Arabs they had to take their slaves across the continent of Africa to either the east or north coast. The arrival of the Europeans gave them access to a new market where they only needed to transport slaves a short distance. I don't think it would be very popular if the Caribbean countries started calling for reparations from Nigeria, or even the transfer of the Benin bronzes. According to the source I quoted earlier, there are still over a million slaves in Nigeria. And an estimated 10,000 in this country.

Yes let's hope that they only ever present leftie opinions from now on (which is pretty much true anyway). Climate change is not a "leftie opinion". It shouldn't be party political at all and it is deeply alarming that it has become so. Just a reminder that Margaret Thatcher, with her science background, understood and fully accepted the science. I didn't mean to imply that, though I can see why you took it that way. My bad.

jib Steve's only taking the man at his word. In other observations your long enduring claims that you're not completely at home with right wing populism despite clear indications to the contrary have now worn so thin as to be hardly worth continuing the charade no?

mark61 re the Telegraph, it's little more than a newsletter for the tory membership these days with the corresponding relationship to reality. The Guardian is however little more now than a click baiting loc version of the DM, trying to survive it's anachronistic free to access model by provoking gasps of outrage and despair in it's liberal readership at any given opportunity. With the exception of the FT and maybe the Economist the British print press is awful compared to those of other countries, even other English speaking countries. It's one reason why I stick almost entirely to the European press. The only reason I've had to read anything in the Guardian recently was the review for the new series of Wolf Hall. Wolf Hall! What a treat, I noticed the scheduling so committed myself to re-reading The Mirror and the Light again. The three books make for a great body of work.

This will go down very badly with some on here, but I wish we had someone like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NP55RI5mhYTom Homan is the new US 'border czar' and seems extremely capable and knowledgeable as well as compassionate towards those adversely affected such as the 300,000 missing children in the US. The original source might infuriate some, but why not expose yourselves to different views occasionally? I do.

'A pregnant woman in Kentucky seeking an abortion filed a lawsuit on Tuesday asking a court to strike down the state’s abortion bans.
The woman, who is known in court records as Mary Poe and is about seven or eight weeks pregnant, is challenging Kentucky’s near-total abortion ban and the six-week ban simultaneously in effect. These bans, Poe argues, violate the Kentucky constitution’s rights to privacy and self-determination and should not be enforced.
“For many individuals, the bans altogether foreclose the ability to access abortion, thus forcing them to carry their pregnancies to term and give birth, which carries a risk of death up to 14 times higher than that associated with abortion,” the lawsuit alleges. “Others, pushed by the bans to travel out of state for legal care, bear the burdens both of increased health risks from being pushed later into pregnancy and of the cost and logistical difficulties of long-distance travel.”
The lawsuit also requests class-action status for all people who may be pregnant or can become so but are unable to get a abortion in Kentucky.
“I feel overwhelmed and frustrated that I cannot access abortion care here in my own state, and I have started the difficult process of arranging to get care in another state where it’s legal,” Poe said in a statement. “This involves trying to take time off work and securing child care, all of which place an enormous burden on me. This is my personal decision, a decision I believe should be mine alone, not one made by anyone else.” Guardian
