Some interesting polling on a slightly different question. Public opinion towards the [X] brand: LAB: 37% positive / 35% negative GRN: 28% / 31% LDEM: 23% / 36% CON: 20% / 52% REF: 13% / 38% via @ipsosuk Listed above in order of the 'positive' percentage. If you did it by least negatives it would be Green, Labour, Lib Dem, RefUK, Conservative And by net difference: Labour +2, Green -3, Lib Dem -13, Ref -25, Con -32 You spoil us! Presenting the same data in multiple ways shows the nuances available to the "which party brand is best?" This is what makes this site worthwhile

This appears to be a direct response to what Braverman said this morning

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” -Oscar Wilde I believe the user name 'bad apple' is free as in "bad apple: someone who creates problems or causes trouble for others; specifically, a member of a group whose behaviour negatively affects the remainder of the group." Merriam-Webster dictionary.

Since it is the 'business' of this thread then moving my reply here: Trevor, you can't call yourself Mark, that name is already taken by our site admin as you are perfectly well aware. Well quite clearly I can myself Mark* as I've demonstrated. If you want to highlight the 'rule' for this site that says I can't call myself whatever I want to call myself then please do so. Perhaps there is an unwritten rule somewhere that "RoCs"** haven't been told about that states:
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"
* After the success in targeting the 'Mercian1' then I expect I'll be the next mark, so thought I'd use that name: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/find%20one%27s%20mark%2Ftarget Within LAB then first Corbyn, now Abbott. I'm not sure who the next mark will be. ** Although since Starmer-LAB are to the right of me on the Economic Axis then I guess most of us are RoC (Tory) now, although some want to admit it of course

Have I missed something? Why is Mr Poppy (@ ceo) now called Mark (@ admin)? I think I could hazard a guess. This is now getting completely ridiculous. We should be thankful that he didn't also change his avatar otherwise none of us would know straightaway that he wasn't the real @ admin. It was time for a new thread anyway, so I won't hold that against him.

Whilst only 'circumstantial' then folks can see who is currently online in the 'home' section and when specific people were last on-line in the 'Members section'. EG mercian last online in the wee small hours of yesterday where as 'admin' Mark was last online 22hours ago (ie about 5pm y'day) ukpollingreport2.proboards.com/members?page=3 * Some folks use the 'invisible' function in the privacy settings so you don't know if they are online or not. Obviously it is each person's choice to use some of the different features of this site if they want to.

Most people would realise that without needing to be told.

To avoid any confusion then I'll follow rule #3* and call myself "Anynody". If anyone else wants to start a new thread in the future, rather than expect Mark to do everything for them, then they can by all means use the same name as me. "No copyrights on a good idea" as they say (although perhaps "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" is more well known) * ukpollingreport2.proboards.com/thread/5/general-rules-post-read

"Jenrick says most people arriving on small boats are 'essentially asylum shoppers' as MPs resume debate on migration bill"
Imagine a scenario you are. a 18 year old girl in let's say for example Ethiopia, you have been a victim of repeated sexual abuse and attempts to force you into an arranged marriage.
Your cousin lives in the UK and has offered you a safe place, there is of course no method of applying for a visa or asylum for the uk. However friends have managed to get you onto transport to Europe and after a traumatic journey you have eventually reached the French coast, you know no one there , you can't speak French , you have no relatives in France, you are alone and afraid but you can speak English fluently and you have been able to speak to your cousin who will welcome you to their family home with their English partner.
You get passage across the channel by unconventional means there is no a alternative method. You are stopped by the border authorities.
Jenrick labels you an "asylum shopper" and Braverman wants to deport you to Rwanda.
These people represent the very vilest of the worst of British characteristic, they should be utterly condemned irrespective of political affiliation.

You can call yourself "Anynody" or anything you want. I appreciate a few people seem to think they are the ones making the site rules and/or able to hand out judgements and/or want to dump extra workload onto Mark but given I'm not sure what you even did then why would that bother Anynody?

From the Guardian:
In an interview this morning Suella Braverman was asked what the government would do about anyone fleeing Sudan coming to the UK on a small boat to claim asylum. Braverman told Sky News that there was no good reason for someone to do this. She said that the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, was operating in the region and “they are the right mechanism by which people should apply if they do want to seek asylum in the United Kingdom”.
But the UNHCR has put out a statement saying Braverman was wrong. It says:
UNHCR is aware of recent public statements suggesting that refugees wishing to apply for asylum in the United Kingdom should do so via the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ respective offices in their home region. UNHCR wishes to clarify that there is no mechanism through which refugees can approach UNHCR with the intention of seeking asylum in the U.K. There is no asylum visa or ‘queue’ for the United Kingdom.
You would think that anyone deserving of the office of Home Secretary would have a sufficient grasp of their brief not to give out inaccurate information on a major aspect of their brief.

colin - I note that you have expressed your pleasure that Andrew Brigden has been thrown out of the Conservative Party for comparing the mRNA vaccines to the Holocaust. That's good news indeed, as you say, but there is something missing here. I'm a little bit baffled that you, and all the other RoC posters on here, weren't up in arms about this when he said it, which was weeks ago. It seems it's OK to join the pile on against Diane Abbott, but everything seems so much more muted when someone actually falsely compares the Holocaust if they are no a Labour MP. Strange.
