I was a member of UK Polling Report from more than a decade ago, although rarely posted and not under this name, having been banned long ago by Anthony for over-reacting to abuse. I haven’t posted for years, and indeed had stopped logging in to the old forum, as it was less and less about polling, and had got stale and unpleasant. I will join but whether I actually contribute remains to be seen.

Hello everyone, good to see some new peeps. Looking forward to escaping autoschmod and being able to post those sinful words like “familiar” and “neoliberal” and “leftie” etc.

I have dabbled on the old board in the past but gave up after it became a nasty sounding board for extremists during the Brexit period. However, I have decided to come back!

Hi I’m Martin, and even though I didn’t contribute much lately I read the forum daily and hope to enjoy the debates and discussions. Happy polling 👍👍

Welcome back, Tancred. Good to see another former UKPR contributor return after an absence (of several years, in your case). Thank you. For some reason I wasn't able to post on the old forum after being banished for reacting to abuse directed at me (that went unpunished of course). I'm hoping for a more democratic and less cliquey board here.

Hi,
Long time UKPR reader. I work day-to-day with MPs of all parties, can't really say what role I do or who I am, you can probably work out I work for Parliament, not for a party. But I do write questions and speeches for all comers. UKPR was daily reading on the days of the Corbyn surge, where UKPR really did help me understand what was going on. Especially that big multiple regression poll (yougove i think) which really did send shockwaves through the House staff.
Anyway, i will post almost nothing, and will sadly miss AJs explanations and musings. But i do enjoy the debate around election times on here.

Hi,
I joined the site yesterday. I have been reading the discussions on UKPR for years. I'm looking forward to hearing a variety of opinions and thoughts.

I've been lurking on UKPR for a decade and have greatly enjoyed the cut and thrust. Was gutted when it looked like the party was over. Though a political junkie by most standards I do not have the detailed knowledge of most posters, so tend not to chip in. I like the site because Left and Right speak civilly to one another, for the most part. I'm a tribal Labour voter who was at university at the same time as Johnson (in fact did the same course as him). I have been unable to watch or listen to BBC News since 2019 because, having watched the man for over 30 years, I simply cannot believe that so many people were taken in. My country seemed to have become a bad joke. Perhaps we are at last waking from the bad dream?

Lurker since 2017 General Election, where I thought the coverage on UKPR was great, but my lurking faded as arguments (especially Brexit) started to dominate. Hoping this site works out better, though I have less time to read at the moment, so will probably only pop in at the most interesting times.

Hello all. Lurking since 2007 with only the very occasional post to my (same) name. Very happy to see Anthony’s original site given a second life. Hopefully everyone will behave themselves here but in any event I look forward to the continuing debate, analysis, and interpretation. It may be some time before I post again so in the meantime may I wish you all a good festive period and offer my thanks for the many years of interest and pleasure you have all given me.

Another 'new' poster here. I lurked on UKPR for some time but every time I tried to post it went into eternal moderation.

I have been reading the old blog for years but never succeeded in joining even though I tried several times. I have enjoyed reading the stuff about polls and what they might mean. I'm fed up with going over the same ground on Brexit, though. I am a retired NHS worker living in Gloucestershire.

I'm fed up with going over the same ground on Brexit, though. Understandable. (Even new ground on Brexit can leave something to be desired). Welcome to the board anyways!

Read the old ukpollingreport for quite a few months , never posted though.
Found the discussions amusing seeing the toing and froing of the various political biases.
WI'll probably join in on here - please be gentle with me...

Dear all, I am a long term lurker at the old UK Polling Report website, but never registered. Frankly, the pointless wrangling about Brexit put me off more than a little (I'm a firm remainer/rejoiner in the sense that this was/is clearly in the national interest, but it was also apparent that the vote for Brexit was primarily emotional and so no amount of argument was likely to change anyone's mind. As to the EU itself, I thought Jeremy Corbyn's rating of 7 out of 10 was about right).
I would say my relevant interests are - polling 3 out of 5, politics 4 out of 5, psephology 5 out of 5. I think I may have something to contribute on the latter, both from long study and experience (i.e. I am getting old!). On the politics front I was a member of the SDP 1981-89 and am of the Labour Party 1996 to date, so definitely left of centre, but I live in an ultra-Tory area and entirely get why people vote for that party even though I don't agree with them. So I hope that at least I can see both sides. Of the various Labour leaders of my time, I would say I was closest to the unfortunate Ed Milliband in my politics.
I currently work for the NHS, and one of my motivations for registering now is to make at least one post in response to some of the less informed views I have seen posted recently about COVID. But I can assure you that politics is more fun that pandemics. I also like cricket a lot, so that at least should endear me to some.

Given it's radioactive, I would advise not standing on Thorium!
More seriously, I think I must have missed the Thorium debate.

I started lurking on the old UKPR more years ago than I think (in the same way there is the exclamation "What? The 1980s weren't only 20 years ago"), but decided not to join, to avoid spending way too much time on the board. Not that that worked out, since I still (mostly) read all the posts. Finally decided "Maybe I should sign up" with steve posting "That oven-ready deal looks to have been defrosted", which I thought was a masterful post of a very subtle pun. Of course, that was posted back when Christmas apathy was at its height, so I held off. But here I am.

Hello. Long-time UKPR reader (since the mid-00s) and comments board contributor (under this handle, then a couple of others whenever I forgot my password) living in the constituency of Southampton Test. Won't be posting for the moment but will be lurking as this version of the board seems more fun to read than the old. I welcome the new blood, emojis and images!

Hello all.
I’ve regularly looked in on the old UKPR for ten years or so before being relieved to see you bunch of randoms 🙂 continue where Wells left off. A world without Crofty would have been a diminished world so I’m glad you did the sequel.
Left of centre, not as left as I once was but still pretty much tribal Labour.
Interests: walking, (my passion since that for my football team went south), making stuff (elderflower cordial, slow gin, and the like)
I like the colours of Crossbat’s team as they remind me of my own London based team, albeit I’m no longer going to the ground as I’m not a fan of the owners. Lots of musical likes but my real loves are ska, indie, and non-macho rock.
Thirty years in the civil service of the Met Police followed since Osborne and Cameron decided to obliterate public services by getting on for ten years free-lancing for a variety unis, private companies, etc.
Married to my beautiful wife. Two wonderful step-sons and a cat I’d die for 🙂That’s me.
