Edge of Reason checking in. Agree with shevii that quoting can be useful, sometimes it could get a bit lost who was replying to whom. Also, if as I hope, EOTW joins us here too then people who struggled to tell us apart before would have no chance now the lack of spaces or underscores has switched me to acronym

Hello all,
Long time lurker from UKPR. I wasn’t able to get any posts through moderation for the last couple of years, so hopefully I can make the odd comment again now. Thanks Mark for setting this up and to everyone else for the previous interesting comments.

Also a longtime lurker of UKPR (since around 2014) and I never did get through the auto-mod. It’s weird as I feel like I know quite a lot of you already. I was genuinely quite sad to hear of UKPR’s closure with all of its incredibly insightful posters, so I am glad that this has been created (thanks Mark.)
It’s nice to finally be here and I look forward to chipping in on the forum (but most likely I’ll be continuing to lurk in the background)

@ Colin I'll see your blue dragonfly in your avatar and raise you an orange one that was sunbathing in our garden! Actually really just testing the add photo facility on here but sounding out whether other people might like a thread on where we live and what we see as nature often gets discussed on here. If I just try and add photo it gets downsized but by using the online "post Image" site you upload a photo to there and link to the URL the site creates and it seems to come out larger.

I'm the only 'nody' other than our new host who has set up a new thread so far (and have asked Mark to delete it as it was a 'trial') but would certainly recommend we have more than one thread. Either COLIN or yourself can set up a 'Nature' one. I expect some 'others' will be interested as well. My interest in 'Nature' is more at the 'macro' level (eg Plan(et) A, Net Zero, Green Tech, etc) but the great thing with a few separate threads is folks can 'pop in' occasionally to whatever thread they want but stick mainly to threads that they have most interest in (or info to share, etc)

Hi. Long term lurker on UKPR. I used to say my heart was very left & my head more LOC/social dem. In terms of how one succeeds in elections that may still be the case but with ecological disasters now emerging, and enormous economic inequalities seemingly immovable, I'm starting to wonder if the heart needs to align more with the head...

There was a certain charm to being lumped into a single conversation that forced debate between posters, rather than allowing specific groups to retreat into their echo chambers. That said, it did get irritating scrolling through a huge, off-topic screed to find the interesting bits at times. Perhaps there needs to be a stickied / pinned thread at the top of the forum which behaves much the same as UKPR does now, but as and when the topic goes off-piste in that thread, a new thread around said specific subject could be created. (Eg a ‘Net-Zero’ thread, a ‘Sleaze Scandal’ thread. Etc.)

@ CATIFUZZ - Good ideas on the 'sticked/pinned' thread for 'everything' and for now this is perhaps it (hence I've re-used the old @ approach)? Folks can then set up spin-off threads as when needed. The 'block' ability can avoid the worst issues around being or feeling 'forced' into an old debate with a 'flamer' and having to scroll through so may posts. There are plenty of 'echo chamber' sites on twitter or newspaper comment sections for those that want to hear an 'echo'. I certainly liked UKPR for seeing comments from outwith my own 'bubble' (eg views from likes of JJ, SHEVII, LL, etc) as well as more detailed specific 'not directly polling relevant' discussions with likes of COLIN, HDAN, etc.
Perhaps some others chip in with their views on format for a few days. No need for unanimity but the early days on the new forum MARK has so kindly set-up for UKPR refugees (and those who never made it in) are probably the best time to get a consensus view on the format (IMO of course)
There is also a 'poll' feature on this site, not that I've used it. Could have a reasoned debate for a set period of time and put it to a vote? Should be 'non-partisan' I would have thought?
Option 1: A 'pinned' thread for 'everything' with optional break-out threads on specific topics Option 2: Set-up various seperate threads now/soon for various specific topics. Don't Know (or specifically care which option)
Or one for our host to decide, or we just see how it goes?

Hello everyone, I have been lurking on Uk polling report since 2017. I was fed up of main stream media and found the site by chance, thank you AW for a great site and thank you Mark for creating this site. I hope this site will continue in the same manner as UK polling report, bringing light to the darkness.

TW "Option 1: A 'pinned' thread for 'everything' with optional break-out threads on specific topics Option 2: Set-up various seperate threads now/soon for various specific topics. Don't Know (or specifically care which option)"
Option 1 with minimal break out threads would be my choice. Excuse the cheek but perhaps Alec vs. TW neverending arguments, and Carfrew pushing some poor bugger to the edge of their sanity, threads could be initial ones!

I registered 20 hours ago.
I will be more careful with my comments compared to some I made. My politics is clear to many here and will be clear to those who haven't seen my comments before.

Option 1 for me too. I liked the fact that on UKPR everyone was together and while I often skipped past some of the more 'techie' discussions it was still good to know they were being discussed,

@ roboy73 - SHEVII has set up a poll as a new thread 'What should the board look like'. Kudos to SHEVII for posting that and I hope everyone who wants to 'gets out to vote' (or abstain if they are a DK). It would be for MARK to decide how long the poll runs and then what to do as he's 'admin'. It should be a totally 'free vote' as I don't see there being any partisan bias risk so hopefully we want see any AB-x voting based on someone else's views on format. I hope+expect most folks will accept a majority decision or MARK's decision. PS The 'block' feature is a great feature of this site. To use it click on 'Profile' in the blue banner at the top, then click on 'Edit Profile' in grey box to the right and the folks can add an Avatar or other info. Under the 'privacy' there is a section for 'Member Block List' and I've put 4 folks in that one already (based on prior 'experience') and would highly recommend some folks put my name in their own block list as well. Maybe some leopards eventually change their spots but I'm keen to end the 'never-ending arguments'. OLDNAT and MERCIA might like to 'get a room' perhaps

And thank you to Mark for setting this up to save us all from internet oblivion.

@tw "OLDNAT and MERCIA might like to 'get a room' perhaps " Oh, how very dare you! 🙂 I was going to suggest that if Danny joins us, he could have a 'Covid conspiracy' thread so that he can get on with writing his book in peace and quiet.

It looks as if we should be able to send each other Personal Messages (PM's).
It uses the settings icon on the top right of a post and then select 'Member' and 'Send Message'.
Also if you click on the blue member's name you get the option to 'Send Message' too.

@sda Your PM idea seems a good way to do banter unless it's so wildly amusing that it deserves a wider audience.

Hello.
What’s the title of this place if one is logged out and wants to log back in?
Well done to Mark by the way and option one for me please - but obviously with a separate TW/Danny fred.

@sda Your PM idea seems a good way to do banter unless it's so wildly amusing that it deserves a wider audience. Personally I have always enjoyed the humorous banter particularly that between OldNat and Yourself but others too. It has the effect of lightening the mood when things get a bit heavy. It would be a shame if that disappeared into private chats imv. I would suggest one thread strictly for polls and another thread for discussion on topics which arise but will go with whatever is decided. KISS as they say. The Like button will be useful to when you want to signify agreement but don't feel the need to post as you have nothing to add.

Nice to see some of the old names back - but much more important that folk who have wanted to chip in to discussions, but previously couldn't, can breathe fresh life and different viewpoints to discussions.
In a more equal society, it would require no special mention that more female members have now joined us - but they are especially welcome.

Helloi, I'm a long time lurker on Anthony's site, been following the site since 2014 reading with interest the different political positions and especially the nuggets about polling methodology. I made a few comments in the passed but the moderation system and my computer failure killed that dead.

Hi guys - nice to meet you! I was never able register on ukpollingreport so couldn't post - but you kept me entertained and informed during lockdown and beyond, so thanks for that. Electorally I've voted LD,L,C and Don't Know all on multiple occasions and invariably for the losing candidate. Geographically I'm a Mercian exile in Wessex - so I guess I'm going to fall out with everyone :-)

sheviiThanks for your Common Darter pic-nice. Mine is Southern Migrant Hawker. Taken at a breeding site in East Sussex. This Asian/Southern European dragonfly has joined many other species in moving north and settling down in Southern England over the last two decades. These Birds, Butterflies, Dragonflies etc are taking advantage of Global Warming and the warm welcome they receive here.

Hello. What’s the title of this place if one is logged out and wants to log back in? I assume ukpollingreport2.proboards.com/I doubt it will show up on Google search just yet. I assume you are Paul Croft. This facility has the ability for you to post up a picture of Rosie & Daisie so get to it :-)

Hi all. Was the poster formally know as redrich, just felt like changing my username. Will still be championing the PSRL and the merits of champagne socialism. (redrich was my grandmother's maiden name - and given my politics and background seemed apt)
