As Sunakered hasn't the guts we'll do it for him.
*Lib Dems to table bill for Nadine Dorries’ suspension as an MP"
The Liberal Democrats will table a bill when parliament returns on 4 September that they hope will result in her suspension.
The party’s deputy leader, Daisy Cooper, is set to lay down a motion demanding Dorries returns to the House of Commons by 14 September or face a 10-day suspension.
If MPs approve it, a recall petition will be triggered in Dorries’ Mid Bedfordshire constituency. This would pave the way for a byelection if more than 10% of constituents sign it.
Cooper said:
For months Nadine Dorries has treated the people of Mid Bedfordshire with contempt and taken them for granted.
As thousands of people struggle to get a GP appointment and face steep hikes to their mortgages, Nadine Dorries continues to be missing in action. What’s worse is that the Conservatives just don’t seem to care that they’re letting people down.
We need an end to this sorry saga, once and for all. Nadine Dorries must resign. If not then this Government must do the right thing and force her to. Every day that Rishi Sunak sits on his hands the people across Mid Bedfordshire are being failed.
Not without an element of self interest of course as being perceived as the party that gave her the boot should be handy in a by election

Section in bold is key point about needing to see policies to speed up transition to 'Net Zero' as being INVESTMENTS not a 'cost' in one-year of HMT/OBR income/expense. What i see happening is the flow of refugess just growing and growing. Sending them to Rwanda is never going to be a solution, and nor is Ascension island unless it is to become the most crowded place on earth. Someone is going to simply have to call a halt to immigration, that looks like how it must inevitably end up. When we do pull up the drawbridge, we had better have made sure to reshore any industries we need first, and to have joined a local mutual help block (ie the EU). So basically we need to reinstate the CAP with subsidies for growing food and remove again those subsidies for maintaining natural environment. (though they wont last long anyway).

The main factor in favour of re-admitting us is economic and the size of our market and the overall EU market (which would strengthens the EU in trade negotiations). On the political side, we are currently seen as troublesome, untrustworthy, unreliable etc my own assessment is unless something really major happens in the next couple of years to shift EU sentiment in favour of the UK, re-joining within 10 years is highly unlikely. In addition, we still have about a year until we possibly get a govt that would even consider a move in this direction a possibility. However within that there is clearly the possibility to rejoin the market, giving the EU the benefit of larger size, but to keep us out of governance of the EU. Its the compromise option brexiteers totally rejected because it creates a vassal state, and the one I as a remainer rejected for precisely the same reason. But it is where we are likely to end up, at least initially. I agree that it would be unwise of the EU to readmit us fully immediately, but to keep us in purgatory looks good for them. And of course its good for us compared to the current situation.

The EU would have far more justification for applying a Veto to any application by the UK than France under De Gaulle had in the 1960s. There could never be a firm guarantee that a readmitted UK would not again change its mind some 30 or 40 years later. No UK government can bind its successors - so a government signing up on agreed terms in circa 2040 could not prevent a later Administration in - say - 2080 going down the same road as Farage et al. The galling thing is that I wont be alive in 100 years to find out who was correct. Maybe we have some youthful members who may see what happens? (according to some we are on the edge of unlocking the secrets of immortality, but I fear these hopes will be as good as those for the covid vaccines to end the epiemic)

We used to have mini vans and Marinas in my early days in the Police The marina was the Inspector's car and only to be used by mere mortals if absolutely necessary They especially didn't like it if you totalled it, which in fairness to myself was not my fault...it was that damned black dog 😀

Why not? Either the motion passes Or The Tories vote against her suspension .
Win win.

Edit - graham got there first. The Lib Dems are quite keen on this type of posturing.

It is not likely to succeed. Whilst I think Dosser Dorries should go then she might enjoy the irony of showing up to HoC to vote on Dosey Cooper's motion and show what a waste of HoC time the LDEM's gimmicks are. IIRC LAB are proposing enforcing some ancient HoC rule but I'm not sure they've thought that one through either (as again, Dorries might decide to show up, but more importantly the future implications would impact all MPs).
"Labour MP Sir Chris Bryant wants to see a parliamentary rule from 1801 reintroduced that allows no MP to “go out of town without leave of this House”" www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/nadine-dorries-tory-mp-bedfordshire-chris-bryant-b1098878.htmlAlthough likes of Sir Keir might like the 1801 rule giving them the excuse to never leave London

Either the motion passes Or The Tories vote against her suspension . Win win. Or Dorries comes back to the HoC for one day between 4th and 14th September, then disappears again for the next six months. Lose/Lose. Unlike Labour with their much greater resources, the Lib Dems can only effectively campaign in one by-election at a time. Hence the original calls for a mid-Beds by-election rather faded after Warburton resigned, giving the Party the Somerton and Frome by-election to concentrate on. A by-election this autumn in mid-Beds is certainly in the Labour Party's interest and, if they can hold it, in the Tory Party's interest (because they get rid of someone with a bad image and replace them with a new candidate who has a year to build personal support). Electoral Calculus shows the Tories just holding on in Bedfordshire Mid (as they call it) by 1.1%. Even if the Lib Dems won a by-election there I would expect it to go back to the Tories at the GE. A Labour by-election victory might just lead to a Labour hold at the GE.

It takes a lot of snowflakes before you see an avalanche but 'Winter is Coming'... Councillors change parties all the time. The Party getting the new councillors crows about it; while the Party they are leaving keeps quiet. It's a non-story.

Good to see Starmer attends a few rugby matches. A corporate hospitality day at Twickers is a fantastic day out but has become very pricey with all the demand.
Starmer has taken more freebies than all Labour leaders since 1997 combinedwww.opendemocracy.net/en/keir-starmer-freebies-junkets-tottenham-hotspur-chelsea-coldplay-adele-google/The King Street Townhouse hotel (Manchester) sounds very nice and I'd already mentioned a day/evening at the races is a great jaunt. I'll correct my comment about Sir Keir maybe hoping for an excuse not to be able to get out of London - he seems to quite like a few days out and good for him enjoying the perks that come with the job 👍

My Dad briefly had one when I was a young kid in the early eighties. Bright yellow it was, awful car with uncomfortable seats. I can distinctly remember it developing rusty wheel arches when it can't have been more than about 4 years old. I imagine that at 10 years old, an age that well looked after cars today can still appear fairly new, it was probably just a heap of oxidised flakes.

leftieliberalActually as it would almost certainly ensure that this otherwise safe seat held by the Tories at a general election is lost to them if Dorries continues to take the piss it would also add a few extra nails into the regimes coffin . Ok it might be Labour who benefited then but 1 Tory less is a win anyways.

Little bit of polling from across the pond. In a Biden v Traitor match up for 24 Yahoo news/yougov poll out yesterday. Showing Biden with a 6 point lead . This is the largest lead against the rapist crime Don recorded this year.

Of course modern day cars don’t rust - they’re all made of plastic! Anyway, mine were blue (used) three years; yellow (in Oz, used) 8mnths; white (new) 4 years; black (new) 2yrs; beige (yum) with a sort of brown fabricy top (new, reimported) 8 years. No rot in any of them. Wonderful. Really sorry to have to give them up in favour of a Beamer.

Hilarious……. but tempting, given that it’s “free”.

Given that I'm probably in quite a small group here , of one I would hope, who was nearly murdered and has had two friends and several other colleagues who have been murdered I would like to make it categorically clear that in no circumstances would I support the reintroduction of the death penalty.

How did you manage to have so many, they were only in production for 10 years or so weren't they? Was the BMW really not considerably better to drive? Even in the eighties they were already pretty good cars.
