"Something's badly wrong with the nations health,"
Quite possibly, but I would have though the chart you quote showed the opposite - almost every category of cause of death is down this year on the five year average. Surely good news? Or am I missing something?

jib Maybe you'd like to apologise to the rest of the UK population then instead for your chronic stupidity. Never mind you can always air your opinions on whatever mind fart forum UKIP are currently providing for cult members. View Attachment Can we not just set up an argument thread for you two? FFS…..

@fecklessmiser Paul I've given up engaging with him. Life's too short. Mind you I'm all for him having a thread so he can argue with himself.

@fecklessmiser That's precisely what I mean and unless there's gratuitous insults posted that's precisely what I intend to do. Why not ask him?

And here's a perfect example of Brexit self delusion. youtu.be/5FGM74_n-hImercian So is the pot facts and the kettle fantasy? You do understand that the evidence is clear to all but the self deluding that the maga world view much like the concept of Brexit bonuses is devoid of connection with objective reality. You make my point for me. And I'm not defending the maga world view.

Nadine Dorries fighting back about criticisms of her complete absence from parliament or local activities.
"Myself and my team of four caseworkers are working daily with constituents. I understand that political opponents, such as Labour-run Flitwick town council, are choosing the summer and news hungry outlets in the summer recess to be noticed. However we are just getting on with the work"
One tiny little flaw in her argument ( other than the fact it's all total cobblers) the council running Flitwick is the central beds council, of the 61 seats just 5 are Labour 20 are Tory , having lost 21 and control in May , the plurality is held by independents with 10 lib dems and 1 green.
You would have thought as she's working so hard for her constituency she might have known who was running the council.

Mar-a-Lago witness ‘retracted false testimony’ to implicate Trump A witness in the criminal case against Donald Trump over his alleged mishandling of classified documents retracted “prior false testimony” after switching lawyers last month and implicated the former president in new information, according to the justice department.
The witness, a Trump employee identified elsewhere as Mar-a-Lago director of information technology, Yuscil Taveras, initially testified to a grand jury in Washington DC that he was unaware of any effort to erase surveillance video at the Florida property.
Prosecutors said in a court filing on Tuesday that the witness after getting the new attorney “immediately … retracted his prior false testimony” and provided the justice department with information that helped form the basis of the revised indictment against Trump, his valet Walt Nauta, and a third defendant, Carlos De Oliveira.
Sensible move given that perjury to a grand jury would have resulted in jail time and loyalty to a narcissistic traitor was never an optimal position.
The evidence continues to pile up.

For example in my backyard, Labour run Witham Town Council, the Tories Braintree District Conncil, which covers Witham. Incidentally, both Flitwick town and Central Beds District Council in Dorries' patch have called on her to resign.

patrickbrian - "Quite possibly, but I would have though the chart you quote showed the opposite - almost every category of cause of death is down this year on the five year average. Surely good news? Or am I missing something?" Yes you are. These are the top ten causes of death. More people are dying - a lot more. So there isn't so much good news. Indeed, I was reading a discussion paper today from population experts who believe we are globally at the start of a major 'population correction', with the ongoing elevated deaths caused by the pandemic likely to lead to a significant change in population dynamics.

pjw1961 The chair of flitwick town council and Mayor is Andy Snape, he's a Tory! The previous chair was councillor Claire Thompson, she's a Tory as well.

Without getting into an argument, that was not the point of your post to which I responded. In the great scheme of things it doesn't really matter, pretty much everyone seems to want rid of her.

No buyer found for high street store Wilko nearly 15000 jobs will go. We've a Wilko in Hemel as is common this occupies one of the largest units in the shopping centre in the high street. There's zero chance of an individual company taking locations of this size and expense to lease and heat and light. Yet another empty shell in our diminished country.

pjw1961True but the Town council isn't Labour either so she seems doubly unaware of who form the local government in her constituency. Did she just open mouth and random utterings emerged, they don't seem to have even nodding connections with reality.

In almost certainly related news: "Russia has relieved Gen Sergei Surovikin of his command of the Russian aerospace forces, in the highest-level sacking yet of a military commander after Yevgeny Prigozhin’s abortive mutiny in June." Surovikin was known as an ally of Progozhin (or perhaps the other way round in truth). His chances of a long and happy retirement are slim, I suspect. Wagner group claiming Progozhin's plane was shot down by a Russian air defence missile.

I was struck today by the thought that the threat of arrest for Putin should have been lifted for the period of the BRIC meeting, to give the opportunity for a coup to take place. It is the traditional time for internal discord to break out. Instead he has taken the opportunity of eyes being diverted to rid himself of two internal opponents.
Whilst on this subject it seem Xi is not as secure as previously, economic woes at home undermining his position.

I hope nobody is going to post about Batty’s team being FOUR NIL UP against a Scottish footy team. Still some time to go plus a trip to Villa to come for Hibs so they could pull it back I suppose. 🏀 🏀 🏀 🏀 🏀 FIVE NIL…..

Three Council by-elections tomorrow:
BRISTOL UA; Bishopston & Ashley Down (Grn resigned) Candidates: CASH, Barry John (Liberal Democrat) CRAWFORD, James Daniel (Green) JAQUES, Roddy (Conservative) MILTON, Andrew (Labour) SAGE, Amy Gwen (TUSC)
2021: Grn 2766, 2395; Lab 1423, 1382; LD 654, 603; Con 336, 329
You would expect a "Green hold" on those numbers.
DUDLEY MBC; St James’s (Con resigned) Candidates: KIEVER, Christian Devi (Green) QADUS, Abdul (Liberal Democrat) RANA, Rab (Conservative) REID, Caroline Ann (Labour) TASKER, Richard John (Independent)
2023: Lab 1209; Con 912; LD 124 2022: Con 1218; Lab 1211; LD 196 2021: Con 1471; Lab 1084; LD 179
I have included the last three years' figures to make the point that although Labour won here in May it is a marginal ward that can go either way. I certainly don't rule out a "Con Hold" while obviously hoping for "Lab Gain". I can't use the Labour = establishment defence for any Labour under-performance as the council is Conservative controlled.
ISLE OF WIGHT UA; Wootton Bridge (Vectis resigned following conviction for child sexual abuse) Candidates: HOPPER, Ed (Conservative) PITCHER, Linda (Vectis) REDRUP, Sarah (Liberal Democrat) SMITH, Michael (Green)
2021: Vectis 533; Con 358; Grn 152; No Desc 83
Note that the new Vectis candidate is the mother of the former councillor, which given why he resigned is perhaps an interesting choice. Vectis are localists, but seem to have origins in UKIP.

DUDLEY MBC; St James’s (Con resigned) Sedgley ward is part of the same council so there may be local issues at play in this one if things have spilled over:
