I remember the first match I ever saw, aged about 9 in 1959 or 60. Villa beat Blues 6-2 and I never saw them score 6 again! Gerry Hitchens got a hat-trick and I can still more or less remember most of the team.
Nigel Sims, Stan Lynn, Pat Saward, Vic Crowe?, Harry Burrows, Bobby Thomson, Gerry Hitchens, Peter McParland. Possibly Jimmy Dugdale and Peter Aldiss.

Ah yes, those glorious 1890s! I've just realised that the first match I ever saw was about equidistant between those glorious 1890s and now, so there would have been old men at that match who actually remembered the glory days! |
