Seriouly considering it as a humane gesture. Not sure whether either the house of its geriatric occupants are up to it.
How about you?

We have. I have done this before, for a black South African who was sponsored and supported by us, and have to admit that it took a lot of discusion and weighing up of the moral necessity with the non-monetary costs involved. It can be a major commitment and we are older and less flexible in our living arrangements than we used to be.

Yes, that is the conflict. In our mid 70s and with health issues, I am far from sure that we can cope with a Ukrainian family for what is likely to be an unspecified time running into years. After all, if this conflict drags on you cant make them homeless after the governments 6 months. Against that is the moral necessity - the same duty that I have as a sailor to go to the aid of someone in trouble on the sea.

At the moment we have only made the intial expression of interest. I think the one thing that mitigates against it being a completely open ended arrangement is the permission to work which comes with the visa which will be issued. Whether the system and scheme are capable of working in the way it is being advertised is an entirely different thing of course, so far I see no evidence of that happening, and with no support other than the individual sponsors this whole scheme will fail.
