As starting new threads is in vogue today, thought I'd start one for people to pass on TV recommendations.
I'm looking forward to these, which are based on books I've enjoyed :
All the Light We Cannot See - Netflix from Nov 2nd
Lessons in Chemistry - Apple from Oct 13th
Real Tigers(Slough House series) - Apple from Dec 1st
Currently watching:
Traitors NZ (need a VPN) Alone (UK)
Also, for a nostalgia hit, the Michael J Bird drama series for the BBC - Who Pays the Ferryman and Dark Side of the Sun

Hi johntel . I tend to have rather trashy taste in regards to TV. Currently watching,Sex Education (season 4), Netflix. Not for everyone. Ashoka - Disney. Despite getting mixed reviews, I'm finding this to be one of the more enjoyable extended star wars universe TV offerings. Invasion - Apple. Started watching this as it came up as a suggestion after I watched the Foundation series (which I found quite disappointing). From - NowTV/Ski Sci-Fi. If you like Stephen King, you should like this.

Is that just "Dark"? If so I had trouble even in season 1 and by the middle of season two was completely lost!

The Last Of Us- post apocolyptic drama- similar in survival style to Walking Dead but some very emotional scenes and strong character building in the main two characters with a developing proxy dad relationship. Episode 3 has received rave reviews (almost standalone as the main two characters are mostly absent) and was very teary with two non stereotype gays meeting up and... no plot spoilers but very tense, moving and sad.
Deadloch- serial killer whodunnit- primarily humourous but then gets you hooked onto the whodunnit aspect. Feminist/lesbian community sets up shop in a traditional hillbilly sort of town where all the men start getting murdered. Probably not for everyone as it has very strong, creative bad language. Takes a while to get going and a rather silly sex scene at the start but once the characters settle down it gets good. Makes fun of the men but also even handed as it pokes gentle fun at the hippy feminists too.

A semi-topical film recommendation. The Gatekeepers is a fascinating documentary about Shin Bet, Israel's internal security agency. It consists mostly of interviews with ex-directors of Shin Bet, often filmed very close up, so you see every change of expression. I think it's fair to describe the film's director as being of the Israeli left. I saw this in the cinema when it was first released, but I'm sure it must be available in other formats now.

Gen V- Ambitious parents give a drug to their children that produces random super powers in later life. Based around a college (with a hidden agenda) for super hero teenagers where super powers mix with typical teenage needs for sex, drugs, likes on social media, instagram followers, league tables etc. The college is only concerned with publicity and ratings (and hidden agenda) and no interest in safeguarding or student development.
Reminds me a bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but pushing the boundaries of "adult" to the very limit. There is a comic CGI-ed sex scene in episode 1 which I'm amazed they can get away with so not for polite company but was laugh out loud. Good storyline, clever commentary on social/teenage attitudes and good characters. My favourite is a literal trans character who can shift from boy to girl depending on their mood or need but there are other good, if more predictable, super power characters.

For anyone who liked The Traitors, the second Australian series was really good. You can watch it here - 10play.com.au/the-traitors - with a VPN.

"Reacher" on Amazon. Much better than the film version with that dwarf film star. The protagonist in this actually looks like the character in the books for a start.

Just about to finish "The Curse" and it's the most cringey thing I've ever experienced in a TV show- imagine cringing over David Brent x1,000 and you might get close.
A liberal woman is given money ("A loan") by her slum landlord property developer parents to set up on her own. Her and her hubbie go into the same property developing business in a poor area designing awful looking eco houses and giving back to the community, supporting native American culture and local art projects. The locals needs are of course totally disconnected from her extreme visions for everything to be perfect. One example (sorry plot spoiler to give the feel for the show) is that when she sees the police arresting someone outside the jeans store she has an interest in she decides she doesn't want this image of police arrests for the neighbourhood and that the person probably took it because they were desperate. She therefore gives her credit card details and tells the shop assistant to just ring it up to her account if there is any further shoplifting with the obvious consequences.
The relationship between her and her doormat hubbie (despite him not being a traditional wimp and having anger outbursts at other people) is excruciating as he dotes on her every choice despite being the one who is supposed to ground her in reality. She still has a go at him for not being with her vision. She has superb facial expressions throughout (one constant smile conveying different things at different times) and long pauses in the conversations where you want to scream at the telly for one of the characters to face up to things.
